Wonderful oil on canvas depicting a female dating back to the second half of the 19th century, signed Canella in red cursive with a brush. The woman is painted standing in profile but with her face turned toward the viewer; she is wearing a white, fitted dress with elbow-length sleeves and long black lace gloves. A ribbon hat covers her head and in her left hand she holds a red umbrella and a small black bag. The painting is set outdoors, as proven by the bench in the foreground immediately behind the lady and the various trees covering the background. The brush strokes are clearly visible, fast, and the pure colors used create a vibrant and dynamic effect. The lady portrayed, the setting, and the type of brushwork are very close to the style of the time, particularly Impressionism. Work attributed to Francesco Cannella, a painter active in Venice between 1859 and 1887. Very charming painting, in excellent state of preservation.
