Oil on canvas - "Over the Cornizzolo peak" - Guglielmo Ciardi 1886

Guglielmo Ciardi (1842-1917) was a Venetian painter, whose family was well-known, since also two of his children would become painters. After studying at the Accademia delle Belle Arti, he travelled around Italy and met exponents of several artistic movements, including the Macchiaioli. In 1869 he returned to Venice, where his representations of the lagoon and of the Treviso countryside made him well-known. From 1885, due to his long summer stays in the Dolomites, the artist started to depict mountain landscapes as well. The painting at issue - dated 1886 - is titled "Over the Cornizzolo peak", a mount of the Lugano Prealps between Como and Lecco. The mountain landscape of this painting is made alive and vibrant by the river descending to the valley. This material work of art, characterized by intense colors, is signed by the author on the bottom right. Size of the canvas 58x38 cm, without the vintage frame. On the back there are the title, the date and some signatures.
