Watercolour and mixed media painting Giacinto Gigante - Italy 19th century

Gulf on Naples Watercolor on cardboard - G. Gigante - Naples 19th cent.
Giacinto Gigante is considered one of the best painters of the Neapolitan school of Posillipo. He was born in Naples in 1806, where he died in 1876. He created great works of rare beauty, especially Neapolitan views, such as this painting: it represents the Bank of Saint Lucia of the Gulf of Naples, with Mount Vesuvius in the background. The painting was created by using mixed media on cardboard, he uses white sulfur lead creating a particular effect as if the color were in relief. This work is to be considered among the best of his repertoire, and apart from some small traces of humidity, the state of conservation is excellent. Signature and description at the bottom.
