Murano glass centerpiece - Venini - Italy 1994

Centerpiece in orange opaline glass, produced by the Venini artistic glassworks. Opaline glass, which is milky and opaque, was first made in the 16th century and continues to be one of the types of glass most loved by collectors today. To obtain it, the lattimo glass, an opaque white glass, is overlapped or, using a Murano term, incamiciato with two layers of thin colored glass, thus making the colors particularly intense and bright. This centerpiece, which harks back to the Venini 1930s collection, rests on a small circular base in black glass paste that bears the signature "Venini '94" engraved on the bottom.
