Antique pair of holy water stoups, crafted in .800 silver, as confirmed by the official Lombardo‑Venetian hallmark, recognizable by the octagonal punch with the globe at the centre, surrounded by the seven stars of the Great Bear, a mark introduced from 1810 onwards, following Napoleon’s proclamation as King of the new Kingdom of Italy. At the centre of each piece appears a delicate yet intense depiction of the Virgin and Child with the young Saint John, rendered with refined sculptural quality and great expressive sensitivity. The frame surrounding the central medallion is enriched with floral ornamental motifs, while the lower basin, intended to hold holy water, features finely chased and decorative surfaces that harmoniously correspond with the upper section. Original collector’s pieces, perfectly balanced in composition and in good condition, offering an authentic testament to sacred silverwork from the Napoleonic period.
