Polychrome wooden sculpture Saint Sebastian - Italy 16th century

Polychrome wooden sculpture depicting St. Sebastian in the moment of martyrdom, leaning against the trunk of the tree with his left arm raised, his right leg bent and his face turned downwards, with an expression of pitiful resignation. On his body there are the arrows of martyrdom, the bleeding wounds that contrast with the whiteness of the semi-naked body of the Saint, represented here according to the canons of classical iconography as a beautiful beardless young man, with his bare chest pierced by arrows. The sculpture is in good conditions.
