Angelo Morbelli was born in Alessandria (Italy) in 1853 into a wealthy family, and died in Milan in 1919. In 1867 he joined the Brera Academy in Milan, where he learnt the techniques of classical painting and photography. At the beginning he focused on architectural subjects, but then he went for historical subjects, with the aim of depicting true social situations. From this moment on, Morbelli would change his pictorial technique: with Pellizza da Volpedo he created the movement of "Divisionism", whose adherents chose not to use the chiaroscuro but to use colours to outline shapes. The work of art at issue was made with pencils on cardboard and is titled "Baite", and depicts Monferrato hills. It is signed by the artist at the bottom left, while on the back there are references to some of the owners. Perfect the state of preservation.
