Ludwig Moser

An Austrian glass artist who in 1857opened in Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic, workshop for the production of glass in which many independent artists gave their contribution. In 1892 it became a proper factory with 400 workers; the Karlsbaderglasindustrie Gesellschaft Ludwig Moser & SöhneIts characteristics were the materials with which Ludwig Moser chose to work and the types of processing techniques. The typical Bohemian glass, made of calcium and potassium, lighter and less refractive compared to lead crystal, could be easily carved and engraved, and it offered a better adherence to the gold decoration. Another frequent decoration was a floral pattern deeply engraved andcarved out of the transparent crystal, often finished with a further application of colored glass on the top.
