Birth of the Mother of God Russia 18th cent.
Ancient Russian icon of the "Birth of the Mother of God", painted in tempera on wood at the end of the 18th century. The complex composition is divided into three different scenes. The main scene represents St. Anna half-reclining on a bed who has just given birth to her daughter; the second scene represents the maids intent on washing the little Mary; and finally St. Anna is represented with Mary and Mary's father seated on a red throne.
