Mother of God of the "Burning Bush" Russia 19th cent.
Ancient Russian icon made in tempera on wood, representing the Mother of God of the "Burning Bush". The figure of the Virgin with the Child appears at the center of a sphere inserted within an eight-pointed star, composed of two rhombuses, one green and the other red, superimposed in a cross and an eight-petalled rose. At the corners of the red diamond are represented the emblems of the evangelists: the angel, the eagle, the lion and the ox; on the background of the red rhombus and the rose are depicted angels, seraphim and cherubs.
